Nesse mês, viajei para uma cidade que costumo sempre visitar – Aparecida, localizada no estado de São Paulo. Todos os anos, junto com minha família e milhões de visitantes do mundo todo, torno-me peregrina e vou a um dos principais núcleos turísticos do Brasil para agradecer por todos os dons, alegrias, viagens e graças recebidas. Nossa Senhora Aparecida, padroeira do Brasil, foi encontrada na região e, devido ao número crescente de fiéis, o município se tornou o maior centro de peregrinação religiosa da América Latina.

No complexo, os viajantes podem visitar diversos locais, entre eles: a Basílica Velha, inaugurada em 1888; a impressionante Basílica de Nossa Senhora Aparecida, inaugurada na segunda metade do século XX; Porto Itaguaçu, que marca o local onde a imagem de Nossa Senhora foi encontrada em 1717 por três pescadores, João Alves, Felipe Pedroso e Domingos Garcia. De acordo com informações do site do Santuário, eles estavam com dificuldades para pescar peixes e, após várias tentativas, tiraram das águas a imagem de Nossa Senhora, que veio em dois pedaços – primeiro o corpo e depois, ao descer o rio, encontraram a cabeça. Após colocar a imagem no barco, a sorte dos três pescadores mudou e suas redes se encheram de peixes, episódio que ficou conhecido como o milagre dos peixes.
Independentemente da sua religião e crenças, com certeza é um local que vale a pena a visita. Como todos os grandes templos, é impossível não sentir a energia poderosa que emana de todos os lugares: da sala de velas onde os fiéis depositam no fogo seus pedidos e agradecimentos (com velas muitas vezes do tamanho da própria pessoa); da sala dos milagres onde milhares de pessoas deixam fotos e objetos como forma de agradecimento pelas graças atendidas e milagres realizados; da Basílica com suas preces e belos vitrais e missas lotadas de fiéis sentados em todos os bancos, no chão e por todos os cantos do Santuário.

Viajar por novos lugares e alguns que nos são bastante conhecidos, como Aparecida, sempre nos permite refletir e absorver um pouco sobre os mistérios da vida. Gosto muito da frase de Johann Goethe, autor e um dos líderes do movimento literário romântico alemão Sturm und Drang (Tempestade e Ímpeto):
“Sim, nada mais sou do que um viajante, um peregrino sobre a terra! E você é alguma coisa mais do que isso”?
Somos nada mais do que caminhantes, passageiros de uma breve jornada nesse planeta azul. Somos uma manhã de primavera, um breve suspiro dentro dos séculos e séculos que compõem o tempo.
Por isso, sou fascinada pela figura do peregrino: aquele sujeito que abraça a singeleza da impermanência, que viaja em busca de algo, que caminha ao encontro de si mesmo e do outro. Como disse o poeta espanhol Antonio Machado:
“Caminhante, não há caminho, o caminho se faz ao caminhar”.
O peregrino se desprende na jornada de tudo aquilo que é acessório, de tudo o que o impede de ver a beleza no ordinário do cotidiano. Ele entende que caminha porque a vida é movimento. Porque ele é a poeira, as pedras, as plantas, o deserto – é tudo o que o rodeia. O peregrino é o próprio caminho.
O cotidiano muitas vezes nos faz esquecer de que somos viajantes na jornada da vida. E nossos olhos acabam ficando destreinados. Precisamos resgatar o olhar curioso do peregrino, que abraça a vida com leveza e simplicidade.
A Torre Brasília tem cem metros de altura e possui dezoito andares. A sua subida compensa, pois há uma vista incrível da região no topo. * The Brasilia Tower is one hundred meters high and has eighteen floors. The climb pays off because there is an incredible view of the region at the top.

– Vá com em média meia hora de antecedência para conseguir um lugar para sentar nas missas da Basílica de Nossa Senhora Aparecida.
– A hospedagem na Pousada do Bom Jesus é uma experiência incrível. Fundado em 1894, o edifício foi inspirado na arquitetura do Palácio de Versailles. Além da beleza da construção e dos jardins (e da saborosa comida caseira), os hóspedes podem visitar os quartos onde se hospedaram os papas São João Paulo II, Bento XVI e o atual Papa Francisco.
– Aproveite para visitar Guaratinguetá, município vizinho de Aparecida, onde nasceu Frei Galvão, o primeiro santo brasileiro.
Pilgrims and their journeys
This month, I traveled to a city I always visit – Aparecida, located in the state of São Paulo. Every year, together with my family and millions of visitors from around the world, I become a pilgrim and go to one of the main tourist centers of Brazil to thank for all the gifts, joys, trips and graces received. Our Lady of Aparecida, the patron saint of Brazil, was found in the region and, due to the growing number of faithful, the municipality became the largest religious pilgrimage center in Latin America.
In the complex, travelers can visit: the Old Basilica, inaugurated in 1888; the impressive Basilica of Our Lady Aparecida, inaugurated in the second half of the 20th century; Porto Itaguaçu, which marks the place where the image of Our Lady was found in 1717 by three fishermen: João Alves, Felipe Pedroso and Domingos Garcia. According to information from the website of the Sanctuary, they were having difficulty catching fish and, after several attempts, they took the image of Our Lady, which came in two pieces – first the body and then, when descending the river, they found the head. After putting the image on the boat, the luck of the three fishermen changed and their nets were filled with fish, an episode that became known as the fish miracle.
Regardless of your religion and beliefs, it sure is a place that is worth the visit. Like all great temples, it is impossible not to feel the powerful energy that emanates from everywhere: the candle-lit room where the faithful place their requests and thanks (with candles many times the size of a person) on fire; the hall of miracles where thousands of people leave photos and objects as a form of thank for the graces received and miracles performed; the Basilica with its prayers and beautiful stained glass windows and masses crowded with faithfuls sitting on all the benches and on the floor of the Sanctuary.
Traveling to new places and some that we are well known, such as Aparecida, always allows us to reflect and absorb a little about the mysteries of life. I like very much the phrase of Johann Goethe, author and one of the leaders of the German romantic literary movement Sturm und Drang (Tempest and Impetus):
“Yes, I am but a traveler, a pilgrim on earth! And you’re something more than that”?
We are nothing more than walkers, passengers of a brief journey on this blue planet. We are a spring morning, a brief sigh within the centuries and centuries that compose time.
That is why I am fascinated by the figure of the pilgrim: that person who embraces the singleness of impermanence, who travels in search of something, which is in the direction of meeting himself and the other. As the Spanish poet Antonio Machado put it:
“Wanderer, there is no road, the road is made by walking. “
The pilgrim detaches himself in the journey of all that is accessory, of everything that prevents him from seeing beauty in the ordinary of everyday life. He understands that he walks because life is movement. Because he is the dust, the stones, the plants, the desert – he is all that surrounds him. The pilgrim is the road itself.
Everyday life often makes us forget that we are travelers on the journey of life. And our eyes end up being untrained. We need to rescue the curious eyes of the pilgrim, who embraces life lightly and simplicity.
Tips
– Go with half an hour in advance to get a place to sit in the masses of the Basilica of Our Lady Aparecida.
– Accommodation at Pousada do Bom Jesus is an incredible experience. Founded in 1894, the building was inspired by the architecture of the Palace of Versailles. In addition to the beauty of the building and the gardens (and the tasty home-cooked food), guests can visit the rooms where Pope John Paul II, Pope Benedict XVI and present-day Pope Francisco stayed.
– Visit Guaratinguetá, city that is located near Aparecida, where Frei Galvão was born, the first Brazilian saint.
